ACTIVITIES
The main activities in which volunteers will participate in the Escuela Activa Magea are divided into 3 different areas:
- Assistance and support during lessons and within the three courses offered by the school and support and accompaniment of children during extracurricular activities. Magea Escuela Activa has developed its own methodology based on Active Pedagogy and within the daily programme, there are moments of work with pedagogical material. In the Colibris group (3-6 years old), the priority is to accompany them through Montessori Pedagogy. The volunteers in this class will play the role of Montessori assistant, taking care of the care and order of the materials and accompanying the most basic needs of the children. In the group of Crocodiles (6-8 years old) and Koalas (9-12 years old), the work with the materials is through the ©Magea Method, a methodology of its own in which learning takes place through manipulable materials. The work of the volunteers will be to assist the children, providing them with the materials they will need according to the tutor’s guidance.
- Support in the creation of pedagogical material for the Magea method, through its “image bank”. The Magea teaching and learning model is based on interaction with self-created manipulable materials. Many of them are made with images and text cards. The role of volunteers will be to search for specific images in an image bank and then to lay out the cards and expand the range of teaching materials. Similarly, the ©Magea Method is based on other types of materials, which need to be prototyped using recycled material and stationery.
- Help with school space conditioning activities. Magea has 3,600 square metres of space and help in setting up the space can help its users to have more opportunities and tools for interaction. Here, the role of the volunteers, will be to carry out certain tasks such as gardening, horticulture, maintaining the school’s chicken coop and maintaining the facilities.
