WHAT IS THE EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY CORPS?
Discover what the European Solidarity Corps is and how you can get involved
The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is a European Union programme that offers the opportunity to volunteer, work or do a traineeship in your own country, in another EU country or outside the European Union. The programme has been created to replace and gradually improve the European Voluntary Service. All European citizens between 18 and 30 years old, who are legally resident in an EU Member State or a partner country, can take part in an ESC project.
EUROPEAN VOLUNTEERING
Volunteering is an unpaid solidarity activity, which is carried out for a period of up to 12 months. It provides young people with the opportunity to contribute to the daily work of organisations in activities thatimpact the well-being of the communities where they are carried out. Volunteering contributes to addressing social challenges and responds to the needs of local communities. It also allows young people to acquire experience, skills and competences for their personal, educational, social, civic and professional development, improving their employability and exercising active citizenship.

VOLUNTEERING TEAMS
Volunteering Teams are a solidarity activity that allows groups of 10 to 40 young people from at least two countries to volunteer in Europe for a period between 2 weeks and 2 months. At least a quarter of the participants must come from another country. This type of volunteering can also be carried out by people who have already taken part in Individual European Volunteering and is fully funded by the EU. Travel, meals and accommodation.
SOLIDARITY PROJECTS
A Solidarity Project is a local solidarity activity, developed and implemented by young people for a period of 2 to 12 months funded by the European Solidarity Corps programme.
This new opportunity gives a group of at least five young people (18-30 years old) the chance to design and develop a project by themselves that will bring a positive change in their local community. Project costs will be covered!
Solidarity projects should address important issues within local communities of a social or environmental nature. Participation in a solidarity project represents a non-formal learning experience through which young people can enhance their personal, educational and social development. Even if they are national projects, they must have a European added value, which can be expressed through any principle such as social inclusion, diversity or environment.
